It has been a few weeks since the winter break concluded. Some players have been bought and transferred all around the football spectrum. However, three of the most talented players were added to the German league, the Bundesliga. With this addition, the panorama for the league could change. Some teams might be able to contend for the big European prize, the Champions League.
Alvaro Odrizola
The native donostiarra arrive on loan from Real Madrid to the Bayern Munich in mid-January. Speculation of what his role would be in the club was a topic of debate between analysts in the Bundesliga. However, due to some injuries in players like Niklas Sule and Lucas Hernandez, space opened for Odrizola. He is mainly a right-back but could play as a winger if needed.
The 24-year-old arrives at a time in which Bayern struggles for depth on their side making it a splendid addition. The only question would be if he could be able to keep his position as soon as injured players are back in the game.
Dani Olmo
As well as his Spanish squad fellow, former Dinamo Zagreb player Dani Olmo has also joined the Bundesliga on a four-year contract with the Bundesliga leader RB Leipzig. This wonder boy, a native of Barcelona, decided to flee the Spanish nest and play in the Croatian capital city in the summer of 2014. He thought he would have a bigger opportunity to shine.
By mid-2019 Olmo was named ” Croatia’s Player of the Year”, helping him secure his place in the Senior squad on the National Spanish Team. After showing his value as a player in Croatia and the European Under-21 Championship as well as the Euro 2020 Qualifiers, he was acquired by one of the big three in the German league the RB Leipzig. The RB Leipzig is currently in first place. With the addition of Olmo as an attacking midfielder and superstar attacker Timo Werner, Leipzig has the opportunity to finally win the league title. The title has belonged to Bayern Munich since the 2012-13 season.
Erling Haaland
Finally, the boy that everyone has been talking about, ex- Salzburg player Erling Haaland. The Norwegian player has been setting records since joining the Austrian team in 2018. He has not slowed down after signing a four-year contract with Borussia Dortmund after turning down bigger clubs like Juventus.
While playing his debut game in the champions league in 2018 with the FC Red Bull Salzburg, he managed to score a hat trick in less than 45 minutes, becoming the first player to do it. Since his transfer last month, he has caused a stir in the Bundesliga.
Less than a month ago, Haaland played his debut as a substitute in the second half, scoring a hat trick within 23 minutes. He became the second player ever to score three goals in his Bundesliga debut. In his second match, again coming to play as a substitute, Haaland managed to score two goals. Once again, becoming the first Bundesliga player to score five goals in his first two matches and in only 56 minutes. At this pace, who knows what he will achieve in this league and for his national team.
Finally, the Bundesliga has a chance to be bright after several years of being overshadowed by other leagues like Spain’s La Liga and England’s Premier League. The players and dynamics will raise the level of competition and quality of games most German fanatics have hoped for this last decade. With not only two teams, but three teams contending to compete at the Champions League next year. This gives Germany hope to finally take the Champions League cup back since 2013.
