If you’re a hockey fan, you’ve definitely heard the name Henrik Lundqvist more times than you can count on two hands. The 37-year-old Swede is not only the superstar goaltender for the New York Rangers, but he is also very philanthropic off the ice. He is active in his community and holds yearly events to raise money for his foundation that provides needs for children and adults in New York, the Dominican Republic, and his home country of Sweden.
On Sunday afternoon, the young ambassadors of his foundation held a Jam Kancer in the Kan event at Versa rooftop above the Renaissance Hotel in Midtown to raise money for pediatric cancer research. In this type of fundraiser, participants have to throw frisbees in attempts to get it in one of two holes that are cut out of a bucket and the first team that reaches twenty-one points, wins!
In addition to the event, the young ambassadors were also auctioning off a few signed items from Henrik’s teammates, such as a puck signed by forward Chris Kreider and a stick autographed by newly acquired forward Artemi Panarin.
Lundqvist arrived about halfway through the event and he showed such appreciation for his ambassadors. He took the time to meet with every single one of them and their families, and expressed how proud he was of them and how the event came together.
Henrik Lundqvist and his wife Therese’s foundation is a wonderful cause and the kids who put this event together, deserve the ultimate praise, for making a difference in both the community and people’s lives every day.
