We are forty-two days away from the official start of the NHL regular season, and all the teams are in the hunt for hockey’s most elusive prize: Lord Stanley’s cup. After a big upset and the St. Louis Blues taking the cup home this past summer, it has everyone thinking about who could win it in 2020. Could that team be the New York Rangers?
The Manhattan-based hockey club made some serious changes in the offseason in hopes to bolster their lineup and gave the front office a shakeup as well as they chase to bring a title back to New York City for the first time in over twenty years.
Former goaltender John Davidson was hired as president of the team and in just a few short months, he is proving that he wants this club to succeed. He was behind the team’s infamous transactions this summer, from drafting Kappo Kakko second overall to acquiring highly sought after free agent forward Artemi Panarin.
Another part of the organization we should be looking at, is goaltender Henrik Lundqvist. The 37-year-old Swedish superstar is a Vezina Trophy winner, leads the team all-time in wins and shutouts, but is still missing the ultimate hardware in Lord Stanley. You also have to remember that Henrik may be getting older, he is still sharp and could stop the puck at the drop of a hat.
The boys in Blueshirts are in the middle of a highly competitive Metropolitan division between Sidney Crosby and the Penguins, Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals, and of course, their Hudson River rival New Jersey Devils. With the hiring of John Davidson, coach David Quinn at the realm, and two exciting signings, the 2020 Stanley Cup could belong to the New York Rangers.
What do you think? Could this finally be the Blueshirts’ year?
