It has been almost 24 hours since Michael Sam made the brave decision to announce to the world that he is an openly gay man. Since that time, former and current players, head coaches, and team executives have all voiced their opinion on Sam playing in the NFL. Most have given their blessing to the Missouri defensive end with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell releasing a personal statement.
Goodell has a brother Michael who is also openly gay who has called Sam a “hero in the gay and lesbian community” for his decision to come out publicly. He continues by saying, his decision will hopefully have such an impact that “in 10 to 20 years” sexual orientation “won’t be an issue.” Michael says that after knowing the team owners for many owners, he does not expect this to drop his draft stock in anyway.
