Season Ending Injuries

San Francisco 49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman was carted to the locker room in the third quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys. While it was a non-contact injury, an MRI on Monday confirmed a torn Achilles. Bownman led the NFL in tackles last season and will definitely be missed by the 1-3 49ers.

The Arizona Cardinals lost two key players in running back Chris Johnson and defensive back Tyvon Branch. The veterans both suffered groin injuries on Sunday and were placed on injured reserve, the team announced Tuesday.

Key Injuries

During a two-point conversion play, Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton took a helmet-to-helmet hit from Falcons rookie linebacker Deion Jones. The Panthers didn’t just lose the game, but they also lost Newton. The 2015 MVP left the game after that play to be evaluated for a concussion, and did not return. It is still unclear if he will be cleared for Monday night’s game against the Buccaneers.

Another quarterback undergoing the league’s concussion protocol is Arizona Cardinals’ Carson Palmer. Palmer left Sunday’s loss to the Rams late in the fourth quarter. The Cardinals are set to play the 49ers on Thursday night which makes for a short turn around for the 36-year-old quarterback. It is highly doubtful that he will be ready in time. Update: Palmer was officially ruled out for Thursday’s game. Drew Stanton will start for the Cardinals.

Other Injuries to Watch

Gerald McCoy, defensive tackle for the Buccaneers, suffered a left calf injury in the first half of Sunday’s loss to the Broncos. Still no update on his status for Week 5’s game against the Panthers.

Two weeks after placing Ameer Abdullah on injured reserve, the Detriot Lions watched their other running back, Dwayne Washingotn leave Sunday’s game early with a sprained ankle. The rookie running back is hopeful that he won’t miss anytime despite his injury.

Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden announced on Monday that safeties David Burton, Jr. and Su’a Cravens are in concussion protocol. Both players left the second half of Sunday’s win over the Browns.

According to New York Jets coach Todd Bowles, it’s “too early to tell” if cornerback Darrelle Revis will be ready for Sunday’s match up against the Steelers. Revis was seen limping after a hamstring injury but declined to speak to with reporters.

It could be a season ending injury for Jacksonville Jaguars left guard Luke Joeckel. Joeckel was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury he suffered during Sunday’s game in London. Under the league’s new rule, the Jaguars can decide whether or not they want to bring him back after Week 12, or have him sit out the rest of the season.

Good News

Denver Broncos breakout quarterback, Trevor Siemian, says he’s “feeling pretty good” after suffering an injury to his non-throwing shoulder, Sunday, against the Buccaneers. Head coach Gary Kubiak announced on Monday that Siemian is “day-to-day.”

After exiting Sunday’s loss to the Falcons with a hamstring injury, Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis is expected to be “fine.” Sources expect him to play Monday night.

New York Jets wide receiver Eric Decker said that he’s “better this week than last week,” after suffering a torn rotator cuff. Decker’s status for Week 5 is still unclear.

Be sure to check throughout the week for updates.
