We are back football fans! We survived another offseason and it’s time to let your team dictate your mood for an entire week. Of course it’s time for some major overreactions after the first week of the season.
Daniel Jones will be benched by week four
It’s finally time to admit the Daniel Jones experiment in New York is not working for either side and it’s better to finally be honest about it. It’s bad. It’s really bad. They can’t even move the ball. Whatever confidence Jones had in the Giants’ playoff win against Minnesota is long gone. The team has let the Daniel Jones show go on long enough and it’s time to admit they were wrong for not drafting a quarterback at any point. Not to say the Malik Nabers pick was a bad one because similar to the Saquon Barkley pick they grabbed the best player available and that’s never a bad strategy. However, Nabers was drafted to make Jones a better quarterback and the fact that Jones hasn’t improved at all confirms it’s time for a change under center. There’s no way Jones finishes this season as a starting quarterback.
Deshaun Watson will get traded & Browns will have to rebuild… again
The Cowboys’ defense looked incredible against Deshaun Watson and the Browns offense. Similar to New York, it’s just not working out for either side and it’s time to admit it. Cleveland is an overall better team than the Giants so I expect Watson to last the entire season, but after week one I would also expect the Browns to draft a quarterback next season. He also has a new sexual assault lawsuit which should make this decision even easier, but the first twenty-seven lawsuits only got him a fully guaranteed $230 million. Star running back Nick Chubb is still sidelined and will miss at least the first four games after being placed on the PUP list to start the season.
Kansas City will glide to another AFC West title
Not only are the Chiefs still really good, but the rest of their division looks really bad. The Raiders and Chargers fought each other in their game. Rookie QB Bo Nix lost in his debut game against Geno Smith and the Seahawks. So it almost seems inevitable that Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes will hang up another division banner in Kansas City. Rookie receiver Xavier Worthy looked great against a really good Baltimore defense, scoring two twenty-plus yard touchdowns. The Ravens haven’t allowed a player to have multiple twenty-plus yard touchdowns since 2022.
Russell Wilson will never start a game in Pittsburgh
As long as Justin Fields stays healthy, he will remain the starter for the Steelers. Russell Wilson is already starting the season with a calf injury and those can linger for various lengths of time. What are the real expectations of the Steelers this season? Probably finish around .500 again and flirt with the idea of making a run at a wild card spot. Justin Fields can get them there and the win over the Falcons showed it. It wasn’t the prettiest performance with the Steelers offense unable to score a touchdown, but it was a win.
