The Notre Dame football program isn’t having a great start to their season. With a 1-3 record, the team is not ranked and seems to have lost all confidence in themselves. No thanks being given to head coach, Brian Kelly who publicly bashed the team after their 38-35 loss to Duke.
Kelly might haveĀ been talking normally at the press conference, but his message seemed like a scream, “Every position, all 22 of them, will be evaluated.Ā Each and every position. There is no position that is untouchable on this football team. And that’s the quarterback, all the way down to — maybe the long snapper’s OK. We’re not going to touch him. But everybody else is vulnerable.” He certainly didn’t mince any words and made his point very clear.
After throwing the entire team under the bus, Kelly made sure to exclude one guy. Running back Dexter Williams was the only one Kelly thought played to his full abilities and “had fire and grit” in him. He made sure that he buttered himself up too, citing that coaching wasn’t the reason why they lost today, putting the blame solely on the players.
One of the rulesĀ all athletes and coaches will say is to never throw your team under the bus in public which is something that Kelly did to the extreme. What Kelly said was extremely unprofessional and should have been something that was addressed with the team in the locker room, not broadcast for the entire world to hear.
It’s not only embarrassing for the football team. It’s embarrassing for Kelly especially and the school too. If Notre Dame’s record doesn’t improve, IĀ would not be surprised if Coach Kelly is on the hot seat.
