This year, as part of the 2016 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic, the NHL will be including a women’s outdoor match-up. The first-ever Outdoor Women’s Classic will be an exhibition game on the outdoor rink at Gillette Stadium. Fans who have tickets for the 2016 NHL Winter Classic Alumni game can also use this ticket to gain access to the Outdoor Women’s Classic earlier that day.
The Boston Pride will be the first female team to play the Outdoor Women’s Classic, the day before the Boston Bruins take the ice against the Montreal Canadiens. The Pride will take on Les Canadiennes. The game will feature both women’s hockey teams demonstrating their skills and abilities. The first Women’s Classic will make history, and with this exciting addition should become a new staple in the annual NHL Winter Classic.
“Two days with three Boston-Montreal rival match-ups is a great way to celebrate hockey,” said Bill Daly, NHL Deputy Commissioner. “A new year signifies a new chapter and we look forward to sharing the ice for the first time with two professional women’s teams on the League’s biggest stage.”
The Outdoor Women’s Classic will begin 2:00 p.m. ET on Dec. 31, with the Alumni Game taking place later, at 3:30 p.m. The 2016 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic will be on Jan. 1, 2016 at 1:00 p.m.
