This morning, federal prosecutors in Boston released 300 pages of allegations accusing top celebrities, CEOs, and coaches of paying bribes to get their children into top schools. Among those Universities are University of Texas, Georgetown, Stanford, Yale, and USC.
Prosecutors say this is the largest college admissions cheating scam ever in the United States. Many people paid bribes ranging from $200,000 to $6,000,000 to get their children into elite schools. With these large sums of payments, students were able to be admitted into certain school using bribes and fake academic and athletic credentials.
The following celebrities and athletic staff were listed under the indictment as of today:
- Lori Laughlin (Actress, you might remember her as Becky from Full House)
- Felicity Huffman (Actress, placed under arrest this morning)
- John Vandemoer (Stanford)
- Gordon Ernst (Former Georgetown)
- Jorge Salcedo (UCLA)
- Donna Heinel (USC)
- Ali Khosroshahin (USC)
- Laura Janke (USC)
- Jovan Vavic (USC)
- Michael Center (UT)
This afternoon, University of Texas men’s tennis coach Michael Center has been placed on administrative leave. UT Associate Athletics Director John Bianco released the following statement:
“Federal authorities notified us this morning that we were victims of an organized criminal effort involving admissions. We have just become aware of charges against our Men’s Tennis Coach Michael Center and he will be placed on administrative leave until further notice while we gather information. Integrity in admissions is vital to the academic and ethical standards of our University.”
At least 50 people have been charged as of today.
