Oregon lacrosse assistant coach Jen Derby left the program last month after holding a highly reputable career as a both a coach and student-athlete. This month, head coach of the program, Jen Beck, announced a new addition and Derby’s successor in the program, Colleen Taggart.
From 2009-12, Taggart was a member of the program where she lettered all four years and started in 63 of 64 appearances. She also served as an undergraduate assistant coach under Beck during the Ducks’ 2013 campaign.
The Bay Shore, N.Y. native was a rock for the Oregon defense. Taggart earned first-time All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation selections during her sophomore and senior seasons and was voted team captain in three of her four years on the team. In addition, she was also named to the MPSF All-Tournament Team in 2012 after playing a huge part in leading the Ducks to their first MPSF Tournament title.
After three seasons from her final season at Oregon, the new assistant coach still sits at 10th in the program record books for ground balls per game, averaging 1.3 ground balls a game throughout her career.
In an official release from the Athletic Department, Beck states, “Colleen was an integral part of our team during her four years as an athlete here, and I look forward to the contributions she will make as a member of the staff.”
Taggart graduated from Oregon in 2013 and holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and sociology.
