The 10-time world champion, Oscar De La Hoya, has checked himself into rehab to deal with his substance abuse. De La Hoya has struggled with alcoholism and a cocaine addiction in the past and that is suspected to be the case again. He will also miss the big fight between Floyd Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez that his company Golden Boy Productions is producing. De La Hoya has been a mentor in Alvarez, but decided his health was more important. He admitted that they would both be in big fights this weekend, “His is the ring and mine in treatment. I will not be at the fight to cheer Canelo to victory since I have voluntarily admitted myself into a treatment facility.”
The fight is scheduled for Saturday night and is considered the fight of the year. The fight will take play in Las Vegas, NV at the MGM Grand. De La Hoya’s last fight was in 2008 when he lost to Manny Pacquiao. He made news in 2011 when pictures of him surfaced in women’s clothing.
