Oscar Pistorius is currently on trial for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. Steenkamp was shot multiple times in the bathroom of the couple’s home in South Africa. Pistorius does not deny shooting her on Valentine’s Day in 2013. Instead he claims that he thought she was an intruder trying to break into their home.
While he sits on trial looking at being sentenced to 25 years to life in prison, his legal fees have become too much for him. He is being forced to sell the home where the murder took place to pay for all of his legal fees. His lawyer Brian Webber released a statement about his client, “It has become necessary to sell Mr. Pistorius’ home in the Silver Woods Country Estate in Pretoria in order for him to raise the necessary funds to cover his increasing legal costs”
Pistorius has not gone back to his former home since the murder. He is currently living with his uncle in Pretoria. His lawyers said Pistorius has not even thought about returning there. For the three full-time lawyers plus expert witnesses, Pistorius currently has on retainer, it costs him 15,000-20,000 rand per day. The trial is expected to wrap up some time next week.
