After an exciting win over the Philadelphia Eagles, the Atlanta Falcons are trying to continue their success. On their official twitter, the Falcons have confirmed that they signed OT Jake Long. Long is the former first overall pick in the 2008 draft where he was selected by the Miami Dolphins where he stayed until 2012 and then signed with Rams from 2013-2014 before signing a one-year contract with the Falcons.
With Atlanta’s less than stellar offensive line, Long will be making an impact on the team instantly. The only problem that the Falcons could encounter with Long would be that he is very injury prone and keeping him healthy has seemed to be a consistent problem for him. Long has now suffered a torn ACL twice, but apparently the Falcons believed that he would be worth the risk.
Long is a 4-time Pro Bowler and has appeared in 96 games in his career. Before his injuries, Long was considered one of the best offensive tackles in the game and if he can stay healthy, he will be a steal. First-year HC Dan Quinn seems thrilled to have Long on the Falcons, “Just another opportunity to continue to compete… Look forward to having Jake here” While Quinn knows that Long will not be ready for next week, his enthusiasm shows that he is really looking forward to incorporating him into their offensive line. Long also has to be excited that he is finally getting another chance to show that he can make an impact without injuries plaguing him.
