In the wake of tragedy comes the generosity of strangers. Nothing can ever fix what a lone terrorist did on Thursday night, shooting nine people in a church in Charleston. We can only try and repair those left trying to pick up the pieces. Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson decided it was his turn to help those affected. Richardson donated $100,000 to the victims and the church, Emanuel African Methodist, where the shooting took place. The team did not want to comment on the donation, but the team’s director of communications Steven Drummond did say, “. . .our hearts are one with those who grieve the loss of these individuals.”

When Richardson bought the team, he emphasized that it represented both North and South Carolina residents. He sent the donation to the Mother Emmanuel Hope fund, but was made public by South Carolina House of Representative member Bakari Sellers who tweeted a picture of the letter Richardson sent.
