The Carolina Panthers have been one of the biggest and best surprises this season. When they started the season 1-3, nobody expected them to be a legit contender in the NFC South. However, they are on a four game win streak and are looking to make it five today against the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers have not lost a game since September and get back some familiar faces on the field.
Wide receiver Mario Manningham will make his season debut today. Manningham was recovering from ACL surgery. The 49ers also welcome back linebacker Aldon Smith who missed some time while dealing with personal issues. It is unclear how many snaps Smith will see, but getting him back is a huge boost on defense. The Panthers are one of the more physical teams which will be a great matchup for the 49ers. If the Panthers can come out of San Francisco with a win, this may be the statement game they ned for teams to realize they are a serious playoff contender.
As good as the Panthers have been playing, the 49ers have been better. They are at home and they get an offensive weapon back. The Panthers offense has looked better as Cam Newton has looked better, but this is one of the toughest defenses in the league. Two of the most athletic quarterbacks in the league and two of the toughest defenses in the league, what more can you ask for as a football fan? Panthers vs. 49ers- who you takin?
