If his first season showed us anything, it’s that Patrick Mahomes is not built like the rest of us. Mahomes became just the third NFL quarterback to throw for 50 touchdowns, joining Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. The reigning MVP put the entire league on notice that he was special.
Unfortunately last week during Kansas City’s game against Denver, Mahomes suffered a gruesome knee injury that forced him to come out of the game in the first half. He needed assistance off the field, but was able to walk around gingerly after the game.
The entire process was caught on game cameras and it’s clear to see the doctors literally putting his kneecap back in place. Just watching the video of the injury and the doctors working on his knee makes you cringe in pain. The following day, an MRI revealed no structural damage to his knee and less than a week after suffering the injury, Patrick Mahomes was back at practice.
Matt Moore who came in when Mahomes went down has not been named the official starter for Sunday night’s game against the Packers. Media members saw Mahomes stretching with the other quarterbacks and while he was seen throwing the football, he was still limited.
It seems unlikely Kansas City will put their star player out there just a little over a week after suffering an injury. They will absolutely need him at his best if they want to make noise in the playoffs. The team looks like it will welcome back wide receiver Sammy Watkins who has been out with a hamstring injury.
Mahomes was off to another phenomenal start this season. It is unlikely he will want to be sidelined. He was named Offensive Player of the Month in September where he threw ten touchdowns to no interceptions.
