Tom Brady should be happy to play this Sunday. Not because it is against the Patriots’ biggest rival, the New York Jets, bu because he finally gets his big tight end Rob Gronkowski back on the field. Gronkowski is planning on making his season debut this Sunday after being medically cleared by his doctor. It will be a huge relief for a New England team that has been crippled by star injuries. This week, receiver Danny Amendola will be out after suffering a concussion against the Saints.
Brady has developed chemistry with rookie receiver Kenbrell Thompkins who caught the last second touchdown pass last week. The Jets are also dealing with a lot of injuries on their team. Top receiver Santonio Holmes will miss another week and rookie quarterback Geno Smith is coming off his worse performance in his short professional career. It should help Smith get back on track with the absence of New England corner back Aqib Talib. Both teams are incredibly banged up, and this game will come down to which backups step up to the plate.
I think Gronkowski coming back could be huge for the Patriots. It is Brady’s favorite target and he creates such a mismatch for defensive backs. Hopefully, he is full healthy and is not feeling hesitant about getting hit again. The Patriots should still win this game simply because of quarterback Tom Brady, but you have to respect the Jets’ defensive front.
