The New England Patriots still have the best record in the AFC East, but they have looked very different from the TOm Brady led Patriots teams of the past. This team has really suffered from the injury bug this year losing key members of their defense for long stretches of time including Vince Wilfork and OJ Mayo. Brady did get tight end Rob Gronkowski back, but most of his other receivers are still adjusting to the complicated New England offense. Brady has seen his numbers affected, throwing for nine touchdowns, but six interceptions. One team who knows what it is like to have achieved greatness and fall flat this season is the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Ben Roethlisberger has led this team to two Super Bowl titles. This season, that is the number of wins they have at the midway point of the season. The Steelers have lost a lot of great players including James Harrison and Mike Wallace, but they also just look like a team who cannot keep anymore. Their offensive line has been atrocious and Roethlisberger is constantly scrambling out of the pocket to make a play down the field. They have not found a steady running game yet, but have very high hopes for Le’Veon Bell. Both of these teams find themselves in similar situations. They had glorious winning seasons with two great quarterbacks, but now it appears they need to reconstruct their rosters.
These two teams have had some hard fought battles in the past. Most of which came in the postseason with the Patriots getting the edge over the Steelers. The Patriots should be able to pull this one just because of how badly the Steelers have played all season. If the Steelers lose this one, this should be it for their season.
