The Pittsburgh Penguins entered Saturday afternoon’s game six with a chance to take the series from their rivals in the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center. While the boys in black and gold did in fact come up with a huge win, they were without one of their star forwards in the third period as Carl Hagelin left the game injured in the second period and did not return.

Hagelin scored in the first period of an insane 8-5 victory, but Flyers captain Claude Giroux hit the 29-year-old Swede up high, knocking him down and causing Hagelin to hit his head on the ice. He was immediately treated on the bench, but the trainers soon took him to the dressing room for further evaluation and he did not return for the remainder of the game.

Head coach Mike Sullivan had no status on Hagelin in his post-game press conference. The Penguins, however, were able to claim the victory with big thanks to a natural Jake Guentzel hat trick. Pittsburgh is now playing the waiting game as they are looking to see who they will face in the second round between the Washington Capitals and Columbus Blue Jackets. Game six between those two is tomorrow night in Ohio.

Giroux’s hit was clean, and with this extra time of rest, Hagelin could be back for game one of round two as long as he passes concussion protocol. Hoping for a speedy recovery for Carl!
