The Pittsburgh Steelers have already lost 2 kickers and it’s not even regular season yet. After the loss of their only kicker, Shaun Suisham, the Steelers shopped around in free agency and thought that they found a replacement in Garrett Hartley. Unfortunately in their preseason loss against the Buffalo Bills, Hartley was taken out in the first quarterback with a hamstring injury and it is still unknown how serious the injury is/was.
The Steelers have wasted no time in trying to find another replacement and they certainly had a lot of options. However, the Steelers went with a relatively smart option and they decided to skip looking in free agency and made a trade. The trade occurred with the Jacksonville Jaguars who analysts were already predicting would happen eventually.
The trade brought kicker, Josh Scobee to Pittsburgh and left the Jags with Jason Myers. The Jags picked up a 2016 draft pick for Scobee as well. In his 12 years with the Jags, Scobee has acclimated 1022 points, 317 out of 322 extra points made and 235 out of 291 field goals made which made him Jacksonville’s all-time highest scorer. The longest field goal that Scobee has made was 59 yards, but the Steelers are just looking for him to stay healthy.
While Scobee had a pretty decent career last year, it is obvious that the Steelers are getting desperate at this point and would looking for quality over quantity. Hopefully, the third time will be the charm for the Steelers and they will have a kicker stay healthy for more than a preseason game!
