Yesterday the sports world was shocked to hear Chicago Bulls superstar Scottie Pippen attacked a fan who was looking for an autograph. Pippen knocked the guy out outside of a fancy restaurant, Nobu, causing him to need medical assistance. Pippen was named a suspect in a felony assault with a deadly weapon case. He turned himself in to Malibu PD, but was not arrested instead only questioned. Many were left confused as to why Pippen reacted so violently to a fan looking for an autograph. The New York Daily News is reporting a very different account that may explain what caused the basketball legend to snap.
According to the NYDN, the autograph seeker was taking pictures inside of the restaurant and continued to bother Pippen and his family outside of the restaurant. While outside, the fan allegedly started the altercation by spitting at the ex-NBA star, who was holding his 4 year-old daughter. As if that was not bad enough, the “fan” then started yelling the N-word at Pippen which is when he snapped. Pippen is reportedly upset that he is being portrayed as the guilty party when he felt that he was merely defending himself. The autograph seeker was said to be intoxicated at the time of the incident. Pippen and his legal team are considering filing legal action against the man.
If Pippen’s account of the story is correct, then there should be no reason for him to be charged with assault. The truth may never be fully revealed, but if the man did spit on Pippen then he was the catalyst of this fight. There will be plenty more details that are still to come with this story!
