The Philadelphia Eagles have won three games in a row since quarterback Nick Foles replaced an injured Carson Wentz in early December. His two wins came against the LA Rams and the Houston Texans, both of whom are in first place in their conferences.

In their most game against Houston, Foles threw for 471 yards and four touchdowns, becoming the first Eagles’ quarterback to throw for 400 yards and four touchdowns since 2013 when Foles set the record with 406 yards and touchdowns against Oakland. But is Foles the best option to lead the Eagles into the playoffs?

Foles has proven himself to be a competent quarterback, that can come in and win big games if called upon. He was able to carry his team to a Super Bowl victory against the New England Patriots, and claimed the Super Bowl MVP.

Carson Wentz has been dealing with a stress fracture in his back, and it is still uncertain as to whether he will return. Foles has been playing while Wentz recovers, but Wentz has not been placed on injured reserve, leaving the starting quarterback job up in the air for playoffs.

Last season, Foles came in for an injured Wentz around this time in the season. He carried the Eagles through the playoffs, defeating Atlanta and then Minnesota for the NFC Conference Championship. He then rallied his team to defeat New England 41-33 in the Super Bowl. He threw for 373 yards and three touchdowns, earning Super Bowl MVP honors.

Foles played in two games at the beginning of the 2018 season against Atlanta and Tampa Bay.  Despite Foles’ success in the previous season, the team decide to start Wentz and let him settle into the starting role.

There will undoubtedly be a lot of debate in Philly with the team securing a ticket back to the playoffs. Should the Eagle’s continue to ride Foles’ hot hand into the playoffs or, once healthy, return Wentz into his starting role?

Despite the lore and impact that Foles has had on the team in the past few seasons, Wentz should and most likely will remain the starter. It is very possible that Foles will play his last game in an Eagles jersey this weekend. Foles could move on to another team and attempt to cement himself in a starting role.
