Sad news for Buffalo legend Jim Kelly.  Kelly announced that he has been diagnosed with cancer in his jaw.  The quarterback will undergo surgery this Friday after receiving a diagnosis of  squamous cell carcinoma.  The one bright spot is that the cancer has not spread to any other part of his body.  “Doctors have told me that my prognosis for recovery is very good,” he told ESPN.  “I am extremely confident in my road to recovery.”   The quarterback remains in good spirits as he still attends Bills’ practices. He was in attendance for rookie quarterback EJ Manuel’s first press conference.

Kelly has faced tragedy before when he lost his son Hunter to Krabbe’s disease.  The disease is an inherited degenerative disorder that does not allow the myelin sheath to properly protect the brain’s nerve fibers.  Hunter passed away at the age of eight and Kelly founded the foundation Hunter’s Hope Foundation.  Kelly also has The Kelly for Kids Foundation which has donated millions of dollars to sick children.

It is great thatK Kelly remains in great spirits during this difficult time.  It is extremely important to stay positive during this time and not feel sorry for yourself.  We all wish Kelly a speedy recovery and hope that this is just a minor setback.  We are all sending you well wishes Jim Kelly!

  1. The first Superbowls I ever watched were the four Jim Kelly played in. I really wish fate would have given him a win in one of those games. Very sad to hear about his diagnosis and I wish him nothing but the best.
