It may be time to throw in the towel and get out of routine and try something new. Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis met with officials from San Antonio on Friday to discuss a possible move for the franchise, who has yet to win a game this season.
Former San Antonio Mayor Henry Cisneros and other officials traveled to the Bay Area to meet with Davis. This meeting came only months after Davis and other Raiders officials traveled to San Antonio to talk about the big change.
The San Antonio move sounds like a great idea to some. Cisneros told the San Antonio Express News that the city’s strengths and assets would be a great opportunity for the Raiders to digest. That was the only news heard from the meeting as things are still being kept quiet. Raiders officials failed to comment on anything dealing with the move.
The Raiders are in the final year of their lease at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum and without any changes or offers, moving would make sense. They are also the only football team in the NFL that shares their stadium with an MLB team, the Oakland Athletics. There is no need for any Oakland natives or fans to fear though because the Oakland A’s renewed their lease for another 10-years and plan to stay.
If they do happen to move this will not be the first time, they will just be moving a lot farther. The Raiders left Oakland once for Los Angeles back in 1981 and came back in 1995. They are also not the first team to move an entire franchise out of California. The St. Louis Rams were formally known as the Los Angeles Rams from 1946-1994 and even had an Anaheim Era in between. They officially moved to St. Louis in 1995. The move turned out to be successful so the Raiders move could shed a new light on the team, as maybe the team’s officials are hoping.
