When the Rams picked up Todd Gurley in the first round at pick number ten, the Rams were ready to plug him into their offense. However, with a torn ACL last year, it looked like Gurley would slide down the draft board and end up going in the second or third round, making the selection a huge risk.

Certainly, Tre Mason was not thrilled about the selection but the fans and the franchise were excited to have the top running back prospect on their roster. When the Rams picked him up, they knew what they were going to end up with, regardless of how much they wanted Gurley to start in the first game, he was inevitably going to sit out. The Rams didn’t seem to care and decided to sign Gurley to a 4-year, 13.8 million contract with 8.3 million guaranteed.

With early comparisons to Adrian Peterson, Gurley’s debut is certainly going to be an exciting experience for the Rams and Gurley himself. If he can put his money where his run game’s at, Tre Mason should probably start looking for a new job because Gurley will become the main running back and the Rams could have a chance at winning the NFC West.

With a loaded division already, the Rams could have a chance if Gurley really lives up to all the hype but now that Seattle has Chancellor back, the Seahawks look like they could win the division for the third year in a row. The 49ers aren’t looking too promising and the Cardinals are 2-0 currently, so they might be a contender if they can stay healthy. No matter what, though, Gurley’s rookie year could be a late breakout and his addition could end up being what keeps the Rams in the NFC West race.

Gurley is officially listened as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Steelers.
