It has been twenty long years since the New York Rangers fought for the Stanley Cup. Tonight, they can get back there with a win over the Montreal Canadiens. The Rangers had a chance during game five, but could not close the deal despite getting Derek Stepan back on the ice. Stepan scored two goals in the game, but that was about the only positive take away for the Rangers.
Canadiens forward Brandon Prust returns tonight after serving a two-game suspension that stemmed from the hit that broke Stepan’s jaw. The Rangers will be without John Moore who was also hit with a two game suspension for a hit to Dale Weise’s head. New York goalie Henrik Ludqvist is expected to be back on the ice tonight after being pulled from the previous game. He allowed four goals, but his team was able to save him from the loss by tying the score at one point.
The Rangers want to end the game tonight on their home ice. Forward Brad Richards commented, “You go through many situations. [Tuesday] night was a bad feeling, but today we’re getting on a plane to go back to our city, and we get to play in front of our fans. . . It’s a desperate time. You don’t want to go back to a Game 7 where anything can happen. We want to get this done. They’re a good team anywhere.”
He continued saying the team will not focus on what they did wrong, but instead focus on the positive things they have done throughout the series.
