After hearing rumors that 3-point king Ray Allen would return this season, he has officially announced that he will not. Allen was rumored to be joining former teammate Lebron James in Cleveland, James even met with him in Miami. This is not a retirement announcement, however, he said he will reconsider returning to the NBA next season.
Allen will be 40 this summer, but still made an impact last season on the Miami Heat, averaging over nine points a game. Allen made the announcement via a statement through his agent Jim Tanner.
“Over the past several months, I have taken a lot of time to deliberate what is best for me,” Allen said in the statement. “I’ve ultimately decided that I will not play this NBA season. I’m going to take the remainder of this season, as well as the upcoming off-season, to reassess my situation, spend time with my family and determine if I will play in the 2015-16 season.”
Allen has stayed in shape, but teams started backing away from the veteran when he did not make a commitment by All-Star break.
