It has been a crazy week for DeSean Jackson. He was released just a few days ago by the Philadelphia Eagles and has announced on his Instagram page that he signed with division rival Washington. Jackson sent out this picture with the caption, “IT’S GOING DOWN !!! BURGUNDY & GOLD”. The deal is reportedly worth $24 million with $16 million guaranteed over the course of three years.
Players including quarterback Robert Griffin III and newly signed safety Ryan Clark were all lobbying on social media for Jackson to sign with the Redskins. When talking about Jackson, Griffin told ESPN’s Britt McHenry, “Very exciting player. Determined to show he is the best and hungry to win. My kinda guy”. Jackson had drawn interest from other teams including the Oakland Raiders and Buffalo Bills, but never got a chance to visit them.
By acquiring Jackson, the Redskins got a dynamic playmaker who forces opposing defenses to keep their eyes on him. He is a smart and quick receiver who will really help RG3 have a bounce back year after a disappointing sophomore season. Whether the reports that Jackson was often late to team meetings and complained about money will affect his play in DC, only time will tell.
