Robert Griffin III. RG3. The one name in sports that has been everywhere. The Redskins quarterback will make his debut not only for the season, but for suffering a torn ACL in a playoff game last year against the Seattle Seahawks. There have been commercials, interviews, and even documentaries hyping his return to action. Griffin will start tonight, but will wear a knee brace which may or may not limit his mobility in the pocket. A lot is riding on the knee as many expect the Redskins to win the NFC East. If he is not the same quarterback as last year, predictions could change.
The Eagles are coming off a miserable season in which they went 4-12 and quarterback Michael Vick could not stay up in the pocket. Vick is back under new head coach Chip Kelly in a hurry up offense. The Eagles lost wide receiver Jeremy Maclin to a torn ACL which was a huge blow for a team already thin at the position. They do still have running back LeSean McCoy who can fly past defenders.
It will be fun to see both of these mobile quarterbacks square off. However, we did see fellow read option quarterback Colin Kaepernick chose to stay in the pocket instead of breaking loose. This could be the same fate for Griffin as he gets readjusted to playing in the NFL. Luckily for Redskins fans, Griffin has a cannon for an arm and rarely throws bad passes. I do think Griffin has a good game and can edge out their NFC East foe. The Redskins also have running back Alfred Morris who was in the shadow of RG3 last season, but proved that he has wheels on him as well. It will likely depend on which defense forces the opposing quarterback to make tough throws. Griffin might play with slight apprehension about getting hit for the first time. Eagles or Redskins- who you takin?
