Something I will never understand is why do people put their foot in their mouths? If you work for the New York Yankees why in the world would you bash one of the biggest stars on their roster who is making a whole lot of money? I understand that you are Mr. October, Reggie, but you cannot bash other players just because you played in New York and you assume that it is all good. No. People in the Tri-State area are not all rude. Especially not rude enough to go after a man who just passed on. Gary Carter rightfully deserved to be in the Hall of Fame and that was just low for Jackson to go there. I am proud of Carter’s former teammates for coming out and defending Kid’s honor. Carter was one of the most gracious and respectful men to ever play the sport.“He is going a long ways saying something like that,” Wally Backman, now manager of the Mets’ Triple-A affiliate in Buffalo, said Sunday. “Especially with a guy like Gary and his status. It’s not only the player, it’s the person, too. That’s going overboard. To me, it’s a disgrace to the Yankee family with him saying that.” Backman was there when the Mets had their miracle run in 1986 thanks in part to Gary Carter. To go after someone who cannot even defend himself is despicable. So how did the Yankees handle the press storm that Jackson created? Well, he got the celebrity treatment. Just lay low until the end of the week, but you won’t lose your job. How is that real life? If a normal person not in the sports or entertainment world bashed the company’s most expensive product, that person would find themselves on the unemployment line. Trust me, I am not a big A-Rod fan, but the statistics do not lie. Alex Rodriguez’s post-season batting average: .277 and Mr. October’s average: .278. So how exactly does he have a leg to stand on? I’m just saying….
I simply disregarded his comments. They smacked too much of “grumpy old man” for my tastes.
