It is Game 1 of the World Series and Detroit starting pitching Justin Verlander is not looking like he brought his best game. Maybe he spent too much time in bed with girlfriend Kate Upton or maybe he spent too much time celebrating their American League Championship. Nobody knows the reason, but the Cy Young winner has not looked sharp tonight.
While, the National League Champion Giants put on a show for their fans. Any early MVP favorite is third baseman Pablo Sandoval who has already hit THREE home runs in the game. Sandoval only had twelve home runs in the entire regular season. He joins an elite class with Babe Ruth, Albert Pujols, and Mr. October himself, Reggie Jackson, for hitting three homers in a postseason game. Pitcher Barry Zito helped his own cause by driving in a run as well.
This is one of the poorest starts for Verlander who has been unhittable in the postseason. Verlander only lasted four innings and gave up six hits, two of which were Sandoval’s home runs. It is now the top of the sixth and Barry Zito is still going strong not allowing a run. The time gap between games for the Tigers may not have been such a good thing. Hopefully, they can get loose quickly as they need a pretty miraculous comeback to win Game 1, but the Tigers definitely have the line up that could make that happen. It is now 6-0 in favor of the Giants.
