Being someone’s second choice doesn’t feel the best and being someone’s third choice feels even worse. However, RG3 was the Redskins first-string QB from 2012-2014 before basically getting picked over for Cousins and Colt McCoy as his back-up.
Now to avoid injury, RG3 is either going to be McCoy’s back-up or he could find a new position to play. Â There were previous reports of the QB playing safety on the scout team. Obviously that didn’t make RG3 feel the best and probably didn’t help to solidify his relationship with the franchise, the fans and especially the relationship between the other quarterbacks, most notably Cousins.
With the Redskins now 1-1, it looks like Cousins will be staying put where he’s at. According to an insider at Bleacher Report, the quarterbacks absolutely can’t stand each other, “Simply put: they don’t talk. They don’t speak to each other, they don’t communicate, they can’t even be in the same room as each other because of the tension that exists between the two sides…”
Honestly, who could blame RG3 though? He went from the shiny new toy to being tossed away like garbage with a $16 million dollar price tag. With reports that Cousins could have gone to the Jets, it’s not hard to imagine how Griffin would feel cheated out of his spot, but to be fair, neither of them are really the best quarterbacks in Redskins history either.
Since the report has surfaced, RG3 has spoken out about it but Cousins has not. RG3 took to twitter to share his thoughts,
When the hate don't work they start telling lies…
I guess celebrating that your team won with your teammates is isolating yourself #HTTR— Robert Griffin III (@RGIII) September 21, 2015
Regardless of how factual the report actually is, the two quarterbacks being around each other has to be somewhat awkward or at the very least, like hanging out with your ex. They used to be friends, but now they’re exchanging awkward high fives and trying not to dwell on the past.
