Would we expect anything less from Rihanna other than to be true to her authentic self?
In a new interview with Vogue magazine, the beauty mogul revealed that she turned down an offer to perform at Super Bowl LIII. She cites standing in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick as the main reason why. In the interview she calls herself a “sellout” if she would have agreed to do the show. She explained,
I couldn’t dare do that. For what? Who gains from that? Not my people. I just couldn’t be a sellout. I couldn’t be an enabler. There’s things within that organization that I do not agree with at all, and I was not about to go and be of service to them in any way.

Rihanna has always had Kaepernick’s back. She announced on social media that she was not watching the Super Bowl this year. Kaepernick reposted that post and thanked the singer for her support.
Kaepernick led the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl in 2012, but has been unable to even get a tryout with a team for the past two seasons. The league currently employees Ryan Fitzpatrick, Colt McCoy and Josh McCown just to name a few.
Cardi B also declined to do the Super Bowl halftime show when Maroon 5 was announced as last year’s headlining act. Cardi B cited support for Colin Kaepernick for her reason to not join the band on stage.
As epic as Rihanna at a Super Bowl halftime performance would be, you can respect Rihanna for sticking to her beliefs regardless if you agree with them or not. Some good news, she goes on to say that she is working on her ninth album which fans have been waiting, very impatiently, for since 2016.
