In so much needed good news, Colorado Rockies pitcher Chad Bettis made his return to the diamond last night. Bettis had stepped away from baseball after learning that he had testicular cancer in the offseason. He was out for the beginning of the season while still undergoing treatment. In his return, Bettis pitched seven scoreless innings, giving up just six hits.
It was an emotional return for Bettis who admitted that he fought back tears. He told reporters, “So many emotions. I was trying to get them under control. It was taking much longer than what was expected.” He shared his gratitude on his Instagram page.
MLB teams and players welcomed Bettis back, showing that baseball is just one big family at the end of the day.
