Roy “Doc” Halladay has called it a career. The two-time Cy Young Award winner has decided it was in his best interest to end his career. He signed a one day contract with the Toronto Blue Jays, the team that drafted him, so that he can retire as a member of the Jays. Â It is likely that he will go into the Hall of Fame as one. Â This last season was a hard one for Doc, who uncharacteristically struggled. Â Halladay missed most of this season when he suffered a shoulder injury that required surgery.
He will most likely be known for throwing a no-hitter against the Cincinnati Reds in his first postseason game of his career. Â He is only the second pitcher in baseball history to ever do that; Don Larsen being the other pitcher. Â At his press conference, he said, Â “Baseball has been so great to me. I still want to find ways to be involved.” Â He said his sons are excited to spend more time with their father. Â He joins Andy Pettitte and Mariano Rivera as great pitchers who retired this year.
