When Ryan Mallett was released by the Texans earlier in the season, it was unclear where he would end up or if he would even end up on another NFL team. Many speculated that Mallett would end up giving up on his NFL dream, but now it looks like Mallett is getting another chance to be the starter.

After Baltimore starting QB Joe Flacco went down with a torn ACL and MCL, the Ravens were unsure how they were even going to survive this season. Since then, the Ravens have been trying desperately to find a replacement for Flacco which is a lot easier said than done. At first, they decided to take a chance on Matt Schaub. In the game against the Cleveland Browns, Schaub did relatively well and was able to pull out a win out despite throwing two interceptions. In the game against Miami, Schaub was injured and sat out during their next game against the Seahawks which brought in another former backup QB, Jimmy Clausen.

Clausen’s first game as a Raven was against the Seattle Seahawks. To say that he didn’t do a great job would be an understatement. With a final score of 35-6, Clausen’s first start seemed to be the final nail in the coffin of the Ravens’ horrible season. They have decided to try out one more quarterback and picked up former Houston Texan, Ryan Mallett.

During his time in Houston, Mallett was seen as immature and unprepared for the NFL, mostly due to the fact that he was late to practice and missed a team flight, but it seems like Mallett is ready for a fresh start with Baltimore. With the few comments that Mallett has made, he seems ready, “I’m just here to try to be a good teammate and contribute any way I can for the Ravens.” which is all the Ravens can really ask for. If all goes as planned for Mallett, he could be looking to become a backup to Joe Flacco next season.

Mallet got a chance to start today for the Ravens and led them to a big win over division rival Pittsburgh.  He threw a career-high 278 yards and one touchdown.
