Tough day for American snowboarders in Sochi today, especially for fan favorite Shaun White. White had taken home the gold medal in the two previous Olympics and was looking to make it three straight this year. Unfortunately, during his first run White fell and on his second attempt, he could not land his jump cleanly. He did not place and finished fourth for the first time in his Olympic career.
White had pulled out of the slopestyle event to focus solely on the halfpipe event. An event that he was expected to win. Instead, Switzerland’s Iouri (“IPod) Podladtchiko took home the gold after landing a a 1440-degree jump. Podladtchiko nicknamed the trick the “Yolo” jump.
