An extremely scary situation has occurred at the Chiefs’ training facility. NFL insider, Jay Glazer, broke the news this morning that one player has been shot along with another person. Neither person has been officially identified and authorities are waiting until the families are notified to go public. Police have gotten the situation under control and there is no current ongoing threat. Please pray for the two people who were shot. The players are currently having a team meeting to brief them on the situation. Many sources are reporting that a player shot his girlfriend and then turned the gun on himself. Such a sad situation. 10:46 AM: Rumors are swirling that the player was linebacker Jovan Belcher. No official confirmation yet.
11:00 AM: The Chiefs have released an official statement, but did not release the names of the victims. ” We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead. We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation.” If speculation is correct about Belcher, it would be even more tragic since he just had a child.
11:04 AM: More reports say that Belcher murdered his wife at home and then drove to practice to kill himself in front of the Chiefs’ General Manager and head coach. Wow this story is getting worse and worse by the minute. No word yet on tomorrow’s game which is probably the last priority for most.
11:11 AM: The immediate family has been notified and police confirm that the player killed was Jovan Belcher. Sources also say that coaches confronted Belcher in the parking lot before he put the gun to his head.
11:30AM: The Panthers are set to fly to Kansas City implying that there could still be a game tomorrow. Absolutely awful if the NFL makes the Chiefs play. My thoughts go out to those personally affected by today’s tragedy.
