Derek Jeter has stayed busy during the early years of his retirement.  He remained in the sports world with the creation of his own website, The Players Tribune that allows athletes to tell their story in their own words.  He finally settled down and got married to model Hannah Davis.  The couple is expecting their first child, a daughter.

His latest move keeps him close to the diamond.  Jeter, along with New York venture capitalist Bruce Sherman and 16 other investors, are finalizing a deal to buy the Miami Marlins from Jeffrey Loria.   Jeter will be responsible for the baseball side of things while Sherman handles the business aspects of running the team.  The team was sold for an incredible $1.2 billion.  Loria bought the teaming 2002 for $158 million.  Michael Jordan, who is already a minority owner of the NBA team Charlotte Hornets, will also be a minority owner of the team.  As you may recall, Jordan had a short minor league baseball career with the Chicago White Sox before returning to the Chicago Bulls to win three more titles.

Marlins outfielder Marcell Ozuna described the chance to play for Jeter as “an honor”.  He continued by saying that he hopes he brings a winning tradition with him to Miami.  Jeter will get a chance to reunite with another former Yankee great, Don Mattingly, who is the Marlins current manager.  He is excited for Jeter, saying that he is successful at everything he does.

Unfortunately if you were a fan of the massive home run structure in centerfield, you might be upset.  Jeter and company reportedly want to remove the massive structure.  Let’s be honest, it is a little much even for Miami.
