SAN ANTONIO- Spurs starting point guard Dejounte Murray suffered a right knee injury during Sunday’s preseason game against the Houston Rockets.
The injury occurred shortly before the end of the first half of the game, as he was preparing to drive towards the basket against James Harden on a fast break. The game was delayed for several minutes as Murray was in visible pain, before walking back into the locker room.
He is rumored to undergo an MRI on his right knee on today, according to ESPN staff writer Michael C. Wright.
The Spurs fells short to the Rockets, 93-108.
This injury could potentially be a huge blow to the Spurs team, as Murray made NBA history as being the youngest player to be named to an All-Defensive team at age 21. Prior to the injury, Murray was performing very well in the preseason. His field goal percentage was 46.2%, with 17 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals within a 51-minute playing time span in the preseason.
His injury comes a game after rookie guard Lonnie Walker suffered an injury against the Detroit Pistons with a torn meniscus. He will be out for 6-8 weeks and is expected to undergo surgery today.
