At the beginning of the season, it really looked like the Mets were going to be the ones dominating the baseball world, but they have been overpowered by the St. Louis Cardinals.
Right now, the Cardinals have won 51 games which are an astounding step up from any of the other teams. The only team that has a chance of catching up to them is the Astros, but they’d still have to win 7 games in a row and have the Cardinals lose their next 7. However, that seems highly unlikely since they’ve won 6 games straight and with this streak, winning is the only thing on their minds at this point.
Winning, of course, is nothing new to the Cardinals. While fans and non-fans alike try to deem the Cardinals as the “underdogs” of the baseball world, the stats don’t lie. As already mentioned, the 51 wins is an achievement considering that there haven’t even been 75 games yet. They’re also the first team to reach 50 wins this season too. The Cardinals have also made 27 playoff appearances and also have won 11 World Series titles. Calling the Cardinals an “underdog” certainly seems a little far-fetched at the moment, but not a lot of teams could get away from a scandal like they’re dealing with. The scandal involves “hacking” of the Houston Astros by the Cardinals which has not seemed to affect the players in the slightest. It’s like the scandal made the team stronger than before.
At this point, the Cardinals look like they’re on their way to making a 28th playoff appearance even after losing two of their star players, Adam Wainwright and Matt Holliday. The loss of those players has only seemed to fuel the team desire to win and showed what sports are truly about. Teamwork. The Cardinals show that regardless of what happens to their players, teamwork is what is going to help them win games. Their teamwork is the reason why they’re the best team in the MLB and if this teamwork continues, it will certainly pay off in the end.
