With the 2015 NFL season in the books, now is the time for many players to decide what they want for their future. Yesterday, Jared Allen announced his retirement in a cute video on Twitter showing him riding off into the sunset. Today, Steelers tight end Heath Miller’s decided to do the same.
Miller was drafted in 2005 in the first-round by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Miller stayed in Pittsburgh for his entire 11-year career. His impact in Pittsburgh won’t soon be forgotten, though. He is a 2-time Pro Bowler, 2-time Super Bowl Champion, and the 2012 Pittsburgh Steelers’ team MVP.
Miller finishes his career with 592 receptions, 6,569 receiving yards and 45 touchdowns. He never missed more than three games in any season he played and only missed one this past season.  This past season was a slightly down year for the 33-year old who only had 60 receptions for 535 yards and two touchdowns.
Miller’s impact with the Steelers can be seen with his multiple team awards and broken records. He was named the Pittsburgh Steelers Rookie of the Year in 2005 and became the top tight end in the team’s history, shattering all team records for tight ends. He quickly became a favorite target for quarterback Ben Roethlisberger over the years and would eventually become his security blanket. Even if Miller never makes it to Canton, he will certainly be inducted into the Steelers Hall of Fame.
Steelers’ team president, Art Rooney released a statement thanking Miller, “On behalf of the entire Steelers organization and Steelers Nation around the world, I would like to congratulate and thank Heath of his many contributions to the Steelers…The chants of ‘HEEATH’ will be missed at Heinz Field and around the entire NFL. Heath is the most accomplished tight end in team history and his efforts will not soon be forgotten.”
Miller’s retirement helps the Steelers in the long run, especially with possible salary cap issues. The Steelers must have thought it was coming as they picked up a tight-end in last year’s draft.  Miller will always be remembered by Steelers fan as being one of their best tight ends and favorite players to cheer for.
