The Warriors are one win away from advancing to the second round of the playoffs after a win today over the Rockets, 121-94. While the team has to be excited, they also have to be worried about their best player, Steph Curry. Curry had missed the previous two games after suffering an ankle injury in game one. At the end of the first half, the reigning MVP slipped and fell to the floor injuring his right knee.
Curry was clearly in pain as he limped to the locker room at halftime. At that time the game was tied at 56. He tested out his right leg once his team returned to the court, however, he realized he was not at 100 percent. Shortly after that, he returned to the locker room and was ruled out for the remainder of the game. Curry finished the game, playing 19 points and scoring six. Shaun Livingston stepped in for Curry and contributed nine points. Despite Curry’s absence, the Warriors set another NBA record. This time it was for the most made 3-pointers in a playoff game with 21.
Draymond Green spoke to ESPN Radio‘s Kevin Calabro and Jon Barry about his teammate, “He was standing there crying, you know, and like, ‘Dog, just get out of here. We’ll hold you down.’ We gotta support him, you know, and be there for him.” The Warriors may have won the game, but the rest of the playoffs are in jeopardy without their best player. The team is waiting on an MRI to announce how long Curry will be out, if at all.
Talking about their chances to repeat as champions with Curry, Green continued by saying, “If Steph Curry’s out, I’d probably write us off too. That’s human nature [because] the guy’s the MVP of the league, but we’ve got a team full of competitors.” There is no way you can truly ever count this team no matter who gets injured. This team is still full of stars who are all able to take over a game and get a win for them. Game 5 of the series is set for Wednesday.
