When it comes to working over time, the Tampa Bay Lightning are up for it. On Sunday night at the Detroit Red Wings, the Bolts came together and worked hard to extend one of the NHL’s longest current winning streaks, they are right behind Pittsburgh who is leading with seven straight wins.
At the top of the game, Detroit’s Johan Franzen put his team in the lead six minutes into the first period during the game’s first power play. Steven Stamkos of Tampa Bay tied the game towards the end of the period when he scored his ninth goal of the season during a 5-on-3 power play.
By the time the second period came around, Stamkos put his team in the lead scoring his tenth goal of the season, and teammate Tyler Johnson made a shot that would bring the score to 3-1 just a few minutes later. Â Though The Red Wings had several good scoring chances during sudden death they, unfortunately, missed the mark. Â Ryan Callahan of Tampa Bay scored the single shootout goal in OT, lifting his team to a 4-3 win over Detroit. Â This was the sixth consecutive win for Tampa Bay, and the first during the streak that had to go into overtime.
Goal tender of Tampa Bay, Ben Bishop, stopped all three shots he was faced with during the shootout and made over 15 saves to make sure he reached his ninth victory of the season. Â This was the Lightnings second game in their three-game road trip, and they will be at Chicago on Tuesday night to conclude it.
