If you want to attend any boxing event in San Antonio- the matches hosted by Team Morones Boxing/Prince Ranch Boxing entertainment are a definitely must attend. Ricky Morones Jr., a local business entrepreneur/trainer/boxing promoter, does a fantastic job with uplifting his community. His reason is quite simple, he wants to see the city “win.”
The most recent event hosted by TMB and PRB, a partnership with Greg Hannley of Las Vegas-based management firm Prince Ranch Boxing , was hosted at the San Antonio Event Center. The experience had fun backyard style vibrations and a “fight-club” ambiance.
Upon entrance, the parking lot was extremely packed, but there was plenty of parking still available for late-attendees. Inside of the venue, merchandise for boxing fanatics were available for purchase, and despite a packed crowd of over three-thousand people, there were still a few seats left, just in case someone wanted to drop in last-minute.
However, the priciest VIP tables going for over $900 a pop were booked. It was quite evident at that point that TMB/PRB promotions had a choke-hold on the local fan base.
The aura inside of the boxing event was fun as well. There was a DJ playing blaring music you could hear throughout the venue. The ring was perfectly centered to get a good view of the fight from every angle.
Inside of the ring, one of the only African-American ring announcers in the country, Del Richo Jones, did an excellent job riling the crowd up before each match.
Jones, 40-years-old, reflected about the day he became a ring announcer for TMB/PRB events, “One day we were having a professional/amateur event and I asked to announce the event for amateurs. The announcer for the [professionals] backed out, and the Minister of Boxing was officially born!”
The fan-anointed “Minister of Boxing” also added his two cents on Team Morones Boxing events, “The impact TMB is having on the community and the boxing world is amazing. Rick Morones Jr. is an all-around professional of the sport and the business of it. He doesn’t care about the fame, he just wants what is best for boxers. [We] are the future of boxing in San Antonio and will hopefully take over the boxing world.”
The international hopes from Jones do not fall upon deaf ears. Morones has built a huge network of boxing legends, including Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Richard Schaefer to name a few. But despite the network of superstars in his corner, he still remains humble when it comes to his city.
Morones has been in the boxing promoting business since 2013. He has consistently hosted events throughout his promoting tenure to bring the best talent to the forefront this city has to offer.
The most recent event hosted 51-year-old champion John Michael Johnson; one of only four World Champions to emerge from San Antonio. Despite his loss against Omar Castillo, the event premiered multiple up and coming boxers who put up spectacular fights. One including the next up-and-coming boxer Rick “El Castigo” Medina who is now a 6-0 featherweight sensation.
“It means the world to me to give the San Antonio boxing community a consistent platform to show [their] skills, I don’t care about the big venues or lights…I care about consistency. That’s the key word here- consistency,” Morones stated about his events. “The more fights we can give these young men, the faster they get to their goals and dreams! My quote is ‘keep them off the street and in the gym’. I do this for the fighters, not just mine, but all of them.”
Morones has showed his humbleness and humility throughout the San Antonio boxing community. His goals are to continue to build a solid foundation and grow with the boxing community. If he continues to stick to his roots of giving a platform to emerging boxers, uplifting the local community, and spreading love to the local fans in the city, allowing them to enjoy boxing with security, affordability, and ease, there is no doubt TMB/PRB events will reign supreme in the city.
