The United States was defeated with a final score of 3-2, in the last game of the preliminary round for Group A. Both teams were evenly matched heading into the game Wednesday night, but Canada came out with the win. This rivalry had viewers on edge, and many commentators have said this was a great preview of the gold medal match to come.
U.S.A. captain Meghan Duggan spoke to USA Today and said, “If we play them again, we just have to fine-tune some things”.
The US was heavily penalized in the matchup, which in return played a major role in their defeat. Canada rallied from behind as Meghan Augusto scored two of the team’s goals in the third period.
Canada’s overall record moves to 3-0 while the United States record drops to 2-1. As a result of losing this matchup the U.S. is now the number two seed and will have a tougher semi-final matchup.
Their opponent will officially be named this weekend, but from the looks of it they will be facing off against Finland.
