Team USA has made history again in Sochi! Ted Ligety is the first American to win the gold medal in the men’s giant slalom event.  Ligety had a big lead from the beginning.  After the first run, Ligety had a 0.93 seconds lead over Czech Republic’s Ondrej Bank.

This is Ligety’s second Olympic medal win.  In 2006, he won the combined event.  He is also the only American to win two medals in alpine skiing.    The silver medal went to France’s Steve Missillier, after Ondrej Bank was unable to hold on to second place.   Fellow French competitor Alexis Pinturault took home the bronze medal.
