Free agent wide receiver Terrelle Pryor is recovering from being stabbed Friday night after an altercation ensued with his girlfriend. Shalaya Briston, Pryor’s live-in girlfriend, was charged with criminal attempted homicide in relation to the stabbing.
Police noted that Briston had minor injuries as well and will be charging Pryor for his actions in the fight. He was charged with simple assault. Both Pryor and Briston were described as “mutual combatants” in the incident.
Briston and two other females allegedly brought Pryor to the hospital to be treated for his injuries. The incident allegedly started when Briston and her friends arrived back at the couple’s apartment. Initially, the pair got into an argument which resulted in Pryor throwing a witness to the ground. After that, Pryor and Briston started arguing which eventually turned physically. According to witnesses, the couple got into physical altercations often and this was definitely not the first time.
ESPN’s Josina Anderson tweeted that Pryor was out of surgery and recovering from his injuries. He was still in the ICU and would be monitored for 24 hours.
Pryor is currently a free agent, having played with the Jaguars most recently. Coming out of Ohio State, Terrelle Pryor changed positions from quarterback to wide receiver.
Domestic violence in not a joke and this behavior is not that of a loving relationship. It’s sad to see things between Pryor and Briston had to get to this point and hopefully they will realize this is not a healthy relationship. Domestic violence has sadly been a recurring theme in sports and hopefully Pryor and Briston will both learn from this and vow to never hurt someone they love again.
