Looks like Tiger Woods path to win another Masters tournament just got a little longer. It was announced today he underwent back surgery for a pinched nerve that has been bothering him for quite some time. Woods announced on his Twitter page the surgery will force him to miss the upcoming Masters tournament. This will be only the first time in the last twenty years that Woods will not compete at an event.
Woods released this statement about his decision, “After attempting to get ready for the Masters, and failing to make the necessary progress, I decided, in consultation with my doctors, to have this procedure done. I’d like to express my disappointment to the Augusta National membership, staff, volunteers and patrons that I will not be at the Masters. It’s a week that’s very special to me. It also looks like I’ll be forced to miss several upcoming tournaments to focus on my rehabilitation and getting healthy.”
He goes on to say he is disappointed about not being able to compete, but is “optimistic about the future”. He says he still plans to try and break records set by Jack Nicklaus and Sam Snead and has a lot of years of golf left in him. His last Masters win came in 2005.
