After searching for a partner, the NFL finally found one in Twitter to start live-streaming games on a regular basis. The NFL played around with the idea of live-streaming last season with the Jaguars-Bills game in London. After finding success, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced on Twitter, how fitting, that Thursday Night Football would now be available online.
This fall Thursday Night Football will be streamed live @twitter so fans will see more of this. https://t.co/s6tbr9FjvY

In addition to being able to watch the games, fans will be treated to in-game highlights and videos of players and coaches from the field before the game. In a statement Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey said, “This is about transforming the fan experience with football. People watch NFL games with Twitter today.” This is just another way for the NFL to go global, something they have been trying to accomplish recently. The NFL has started making international games in London and are interested in expanding to other countries including China. Going online makes much more sense for the league as so many fans are already conversing about the games on social media. Twitter makes the most sense as far as social media platforms as conversations happen in real time. Fans from all over the world can now watch the game and comment together.
